Library Word of the Week - Metamorphosis

Welcome back everyone! We've had a lovely week back. Three boxes of Junior Library Guild books came over the summer, so they're about to hit the shelves. Plus, the ever wonderful Ms. Conchieri found manga this summer and has graciously donated a stack to the library.

Our word of the week comes from 100 Words Every High School Graduate Should Know on vocabulary.com.
Metamorphosis
In Kafka's novel entitled Metamorphosis, a man wakes up to find he has turned into a cockroach. That kind of complete and startling change pretty much sums up the word.

When a caterpillar becomes a butterfly, it goes through a metamorphosis. An idea can undergo metamorphosis, or metamorphosize, too as can feelings. After you spend a full summer with your grandmother, your feelings about the woman may undergo a complete metamorphosis. While you were once afraid of the old woman, you now love her dearly.

Read more here.

Many of our students undergo a metamorphosis. Some grow in height over the summer, some change from surly to sweet, and some change from mediocre or even failing students into fantastic success stories with straight As by senior year.  Make your metamorphosis a positive thing and make your life better, like the caterpillar who turns into a butterfly and can now soar through the sky.
